Council of Elders Roundtable: Legacy & Preservation
- Part of
- DanceAfrica Festival 2024
DanceAfrica’s Council of Elders has been an instrumental part of the festival since its inception. In this roundtable discussion, members of the Council discuss the importance of preserving the legacy of DanceAfrica, and their work to create connections among the ancestors, the art and culture of Africa and its diaspora. In conjunction with the ongoing DanceAfrica Oral History Project, this conversation serves as a gathering point and opportunity for the DanceAfrica community to ask questions.
Prior to the roundtable, 2023—24 Chuck Davis Emerging Choreographer Fellow, Jahanna Blunt, presents a lecture-demonstration covering her studies of Guinean dance, music, and history. Blunt will talk about her time creating and extending her understanding of African dance while studying in Guinea during the fellowship.
All ages. Space is limited; pre-registration is recommended.
