Students hone their writing craft, refine their performance skills, and analyze poetry in this multi-week residency where they create and perform new works.

Experience Senegal: Senegalese Dance and Music

In this program students will:
● Watch an excerpt of a dance performance by Senegalese dance troupe WAATO SiiTA from BAM’s 2017 DanceAfrica Festival
● Learn a version of the same dance with the guidance of BAM teaching artists, who provide live drumming accompaniment, in a workshop streamed live in the classroom
● Learn a Senegalese drumming call and response, and practice common Wolof words and phrases
● Engage with Senegal’s culture and history through other dynamic activities included in an online pre- and post-show study guide
This virtual workshop runs 55 minutes, including performance excerpts. Fee: $250
