Hal Willner Music
Bill Withers Project
Thu, May 8 at 8pm & Sun, May 11 at 7pm
BRICstudio
(57 Rockwell Place, 2nd floor, between Fulton and DeKalb in Fort Greene)
$12 adults / $10 students
Commissioned by the Celebrate Brooklyn! Performing Arts Festival, a program of BRIC
Visionary music producer Hal Willner, called "one of the most adventurous and audacious music men in the game" by the Irish Times, commandeers BRICstudio for a week of sessions to prepare for a celebration of the music of acoustic R&B pioneer Bill Withers.
Since his first album was released in 1981 featuring contributions from pop icon Debbie Harry and a then-unknown Wynton Marsalis, Willner has continued to produce eclectic music that highlights the talents of diverse artists from pop to jazz to avant-garde. Willner has brought three of his epic, live multi-artist explorations of a single songwriter's work to Celebrate Brooklyn!: Came So Far for
Beauty: An Evening of Leonard Cohen Songs Under the Stars in 2003, Dream Comfort Memory Despair: The Songs of Neil Young in 2004, and I Count The Tears: Songs and Journals of Doc Pomus for Hitmaker in 2007.
The Bill Withers Project will premiere at Celebrate Brooklyn! in Summer 2008.
