Join us in closing out the year with Naima Ramos-Chapman, a rising industry leader and proud Brooklynite, as we explore a selection of the artist's shorts, including Random Acts of Flyness (selects), Piu Piu, In Place of Monuments, and And Nothing Happened, featuring interactive interludes. 

Naima Ramos-Chapman creates work straight from the heart; their inertia begins subtly and unravels to incite a riot within. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Naima has led a creative life since childhood, moving through experiences in dance, journalism, and creative writing, breaking ground in filmmaking as a self-taught powerhouse. Nearly 10 years after releasing their first short, And Nothing Happened, to critical acclaim in 2015, they have gracefully forged a distinguished career in cinema and television, including as a writer/director on Random Acts of Flyness, Betty, The Other Black Girl, and I Am A Virgo. In describing their driving passion for storytelling, Naima said that they “investigate victimhood ontology as expressed through the female gaze by complicating the archetype of the imperiled or victimized woman in order to envision hope, healing, and agency.” A solidified visionary, Naima continues to create dreamlike stories while championing marginalized if not ignored voices and pioneering an approach that has been described as magical realism.
