Schoolgirl Awa is happily living her teenage years alongside her rebellious twin brother, Adama, who dreams of Europe. When their grandmother dies, their aunt Fatou and uncle Atoumane promise to marry to keep the family together. But Fatou does not love Atoumane, who responds to rejection with domestic brutality. Boldly punctuated with musical choruses, the film is the third installment in director Moussa Sène Absa’s trilogy focused on women, following Tableau Ferraille (1995) and L'Extraordinaire destin de Madame Brouette (2002).
