Crash
After getting into a severe car accident, a TV director (Spader) discovers an underground subculture of scarred, omnisexual car-crash fetishists and begins deriving raw sexual pleasure from the carnage of vehicle wrecks. Based on the equally controversial novel by cultural iconoclast J.G Ballard, the film was so divisive that media mogul Ted Turner, whose company owned Fine Line, pulled its release on moral grounds, delaying the film’s US debut. David Cronenberg’s high-speed erotic thriller earned the Jury Prize at Cannes, which jury president Francis Ford Coppola described as being “for originality, for daring, and for audacity.”
