"Guns. Drugs. Gangs. And plenty of violence." Ky-mani Marley leads a star-studded cast, including musicians Wyclef Jean and Lou Rankin, in a film that holds strong among Jamaica's iconic crime-thrillers. Director Cess Silvera's Shottas reveals the struggle of people trapped in the ghettos of Jamaica as they do whatever they have to in order to survive—at all costs. Two childhood friends, played by Marley and Spragga Benz, begin their ruthless climb to the top of a criminal enterprise, set against a Miami chock-full of women and fast cars, in this undisputed fan-favorite, echoing the likes of crime classics The Harder They Come (1972), Klash (1995), Scarface (1983), and more.
Join Be Reel Black Cinema Club, Alfreda's Cinema, and BAM as we revitalize another B-side Black film classic.
