Started by Chilean experimental master Raúl Ruiz in 1990 and completed by his wife in 2017, this dreamy, interconnected series of vignettes is a gloriously political sendup of the telenovela—and Chile itself.
Symbiopsychotaxiplasm
In his indefinable hybrid documentary, trailblazing director William Greaves inverts and democratizes the filmmaking process by offering his film crew the chance to decide exactly what kind of movie they want to make. Splayed out on a lawn in Central Park, the crew squabbles over what makes for a good script, strangers wander in and out of frame weighing in on the process, and a couple reenact the same fight over and over again in this subversive, verité experiment about the act of filmmaking itself.
