These films from the 1970s explore the oppression of Black communities in England and the birth of British Reggae.
Playing Away
To mark the conclusion of its "Third World Week" celebration, a cricket team in a small English village invites a Black cricket team from South London to play a charity game, with hilarious results. A lighter film from legendary Trinidadian-born director Horace Ové, this biting comedy of manners (featuring an extraordinary cast of seminal Black British actors), is clear eyed about the limits of “polite” British society.
Featuring a virtual introduction by Jonathan Ali, Director of Programming for Third Horizon Film Festival. Co-presented by Third Horizon and Luminal Theater.
