Caetano Veloso
Meu Coco / The US Farewell Tour
- Part of
- Winter/Spring 2024
A towering figure in popular music around the globe—and national hero to many at home—Brazilian virtuoso Caetano Veloso returns to BAM with Meu Coco, his first album in nine years. Over an illustrious five-decade career, the father of Tropicália has proved himself as both a piercing social commentator and a romantic balladeer, drawing inspiration from sources as diverse as The Beatles, concrete poetry, the French Dadaists, and Brazilian modernist poets. Playful, tender, and uncompromising, this new album finds Veloso as original as ever.

BIOCaetano VelosoBahian singer-songwriter Caetano Veloso is one of the most important musicians in Brazilian popular music—and many consider him one of the best songwriters of the 20th century. He began his career in the 60s interpreting bossa nova songs and went on to be a leader of the counterculture’s Tropicália movement. Today, Veloso has over fifty albums available and collaborations in film soundtracks including Pedro Almodovar’s Hable con Ella and Julie Taymor’s Frida. He has won numerous awards—including 13 Latin and 2 American Grammys—as well as two titles at the 24th Brazilian Music Awards. An outspoken political activist, Veloso is a major musical, social, and cultural force in Brazil and an influential figure to musicians all over the world.
