Teachers, please encourage eligible current and former students to apply for this great scholarship opportunity!
BAM is delighted to launch the Samuel H. Scripps BAM Scholarship Fund for post-secondary education. These scholarships will exclusively benefit students who have participated in BAM's arts education programs at some point between kindergarten and 12th grade. Launched in 2008, each year we will award two- to four-year scholarships to support students in their pursuit of higher education in dance or theater in the realms of performance, presentation, or arts administration.
This special program honors the memory of former BAM Trustee Sam Scripps, a world-traveler and arts patron who not only worked in theater, but also generously supported dance and theater throughout his lifetime.
2010 Scholarship Information
The Samuel H. Scripps BAM Scholarship Fund was established to reward students who exemplify the mission and goals of BAM's education programs. The scholarship is designed to assist current and former participants of BAM's education programs to achieve the goal of higher education in theater or dance by paying a portion of the cost of attendance at an accredited institution.
All students who apply for the scholarship will be evaluated on their level of participation in BAM education programs, school & community activities, and demonstrated leadership through examination of writing samples, academic transcripts, and letters of recommendation. Application materials will be reviewed by a selection committee comprised of admission & financial aid professionals from colleges and universities in and around New York City who are familiar with BAM's mission and with the practice of identifying well-rounded students to receive scholarship funding.
The number of awards will vary based upon the number and quality of qualified applicants. Approximately $45,000 in scholarship funding will be awarded each calendar year. The Samuel H. Scripps BAM Scholarship is administered by ETS Scholarship & Recognition Programs (SRP), located in Princeton, New Jersey. ETS, an independent, non-profit corporation, is the world's largest private educational testing and measurement organization, and is known for a commitment to advancing learning and increasing opportunities for students worldwide.
