“Tasteful yet ecstatically turned-on, Ferran’s interpretation reworks legendary highbrow ‘smut’ into a textured story of rebirth.” —Time Out New York
Ferran’s earthy, sensual adaptation of D.H. Lawrence’s scandalous novel is based on the least well-known of the book’s three versions. Hands (2007 César for Best Actress) portrays Lady Constance, the bored, dissatisfied wife of a paralyzed war veteran. However, a retreat to the country awakens a host of erotic desires as she becomes entangled in a torrid love affair with a gamekeeper far below her social standing.
The New York Times review of Lady Chatterley
"In stripping “Lady Chatterley” of some of its mystique, Ms. Ferran has rediscovered both the novel’s originality and the source of its durable appeal, which is not salaciousness but candor. She has made a love story that stands on its own, a film whose imaginative freedom perfectly matches the liberation experienced by its heroine." More
The Los Angeles Times review of Lady Chatterley
"To see this difficult love believably take root and flower is a tribute to the power of passion, not only the passion between lovers but the kind that animates filmmakers as well." More
