SERIES DESCRIPTION

All five films John Cazale appeared in during his tragically short career were, famously, nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Though he never achieved the stardom of frequent screen partners Pacino and De Niro, Cazale was a true actor’s actor, creating quietly thoughtful, fully realized characters that are not easily forgotten. “All I wanted to do was work with John for the rest of my life. He was my acting partner.” (Al Pacino)

BAMcinematek is pleased to present the New York premiere of Sundance 2009 favorite I Knew It Was You, a portrait of John Cazale, directed by Richard Shepard. Richard Shepard will introduce the screenings on July 29 (I Knew It Was You and Dog Day Afternoon) and 30 (I Knew It Was You and The Conversation). HBO's I Knew It Was You will air in 2010.
