Adapted from Oscar Wilde's notorious fin du siècle play, initially banned from the London stage, Richard Strauss' 1905 modernist masterpiece resurrects the bloodthirsty biblical seductress—severed head, "Dance of the Seven Veils" and all. Finnish soprano Karita Mattila reprises her sensational performance in the title role, in a production directed by Jürgen Flimm. Mikko Franck conducts.
