"...Frontier of Dawn might mark a significant ripple in the gradual wave of Garrel’s ever-growing renown in the U.S." –Reverse Shot

Philippe Garrel’s (Regular Lovers) new film, which screened in competition at Cannes, is a tempestuous tale of amour fou. Sparks fly between a seductive photographer (Louis Garrel, the director’s son) and an unstable actress (Smet) at a photo shoot, igniting an explosive affair that endures even in death. William Lubtchansky’s luminous photography captures the spirit of the French New Wave, while supernatural motifs, such as a haunted mirror, suggest the fantastic worlds of Cocteau and Franju. US Theatrical Premiere!

Please note: The Q&A with Louis Garrel on Sun, Mar 8 has

Reverse Shot on Frontier of Dawn
"Just as his unshowy camerawork goes unnoticed until a simple pan or zoom calls attention to the carefulness of his compositions and the purpose of any deviations from pragmatic long-take coverage, so do Garrel’s narratives steadily, patiently build on gloom-drenched, picaresque rhythms, revealing an overall design only at the end." Spout on Frontier of Dawn
"Hands down the most accessible Garrel film I’ve seen, it’s still a strange, swoony, genre-bending challenge." More
