- School-Time Performances
CURRICULUM CONNECTIONS: Arts, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Libraries, Literacy, History, Dance
In this moving dance performance from acclaimed choreographer Hope Boykin, a young girl named Clover is told by her mom that it isn’t safe to cross the fence that segregates their African-American side of town from the white side where her neighbor Anna lives. But when the two girls become friends, they find a clever way to get around the grown-up rules together.
Twenty years after its first publication, Jacqueline Woodson’s powerful picture book The Other Side comes to life on stage in an enthralling evening of dance about overcoming the barriers that keep us apart.
Each performance includes a hands on pre- or post-show workshop lasting approximately 45 minutes, led by a BAM teaching artist at no additional cost!
Co-commissioned by the Kennedy Center and HopeBoykinDance
