Glory to Glory (A Revival For Devotional Art)

Centering artists who have dedicated their musical works to faith and the profound experience of religion, this program celebrates women who have delivered Black praise through contemporary conventions in spiritual and devotional music. Glory to Glory (A Revival to Devotional Art) marries homage and ministry to celebrate and uplift their faithfulness to Christ and craft.

Legendary organist, singer-songwriter, and producer Twinkie Clark will be joined by The Clark Sisters for a special performance celebrating the exemplary musicianship of her legacy.

The night will also feature spiritual choral compositions by the late Mary Lou Williams, with New York Philharmonic’s choral director Malcolm J. Merriweather leading a 14-person choir through these acclaimed works, and concert pianist Artina McCain performing a selection of Williams’ spiritual piano pieces. Connecting Mary Lou Williams’ legacy to modern instrumental ministry, this show also features gospel’s premiere saxophonist and psalmist Angella Christie. The program will bear witness to her artistic gift through the saxophone, an instrument with origins rooted in the church.
