A disillusioned Black CIA agent uses his specialized training to build a guerrilla army intent on government overthrow in one of the most radical anti-white-supremacy statements in film history.
Celebrating the best recent restorations of classic works of cinema—from Terrence Malick’s Texas farmland to Edward Yang’s modern Taipei and beyond—this series brings some of the greatest films ever made to the massive screen at the Harvey, BAM’s very own restored movie palace. The festival opens with the premiere of a new restoration of The Spook Who Sat by the Door, Ivan Dixon’s legendary and long-unavailable masterwork of American cinema. Further highlights include I Heard It Through the Grapevine, Dick Fontaine and Pat Hartley’s film about James Baldwin, screening during Baldwin’s centenary month, as well as masterpieces by Andrei Tarkovsky, Jean Renoir, and Alfred Hitchcock.
