One of the most beautiful and moving films by master Chantal Akerman, the largely dialogue-free Toute une nuit cuts among dozens of couples in a funny, poignant portrait of desire in all its forms.

In Francis Ford Coppola’s Palme d’Or-winning thriller, lonely wiretapping expert and devout Catholic Harry Caul (Gene Hackman) is hired to record a seemingly innocuous conversation in San Francisco's Union Square between two lovers. Caul soon realizes that turning the tapes over to his client (Robert Duvall) may put the couple in grave danger. Featuring career-peak performances by Hackman, Duvall, and Ford, The Conversation was nominated for three Academy Awards in 1975 including Best Picture, losing only to Coppola’s other 1974 masterpiece: The Godfather Part II. To mark 50 years since the film’s release, BAM is thrilled to screen this electrifying, blow-out cliffhanger in vivid 4K.
