Just Another Girl on the I.R.T
Chantel is a charismatic Brooklyn teenager who dreams of escaping life in the projects, and going to college, and eventually becoming a doctor. Things go awry when she meets a cute dude with a Jeep, a brownstone, and a mom who spends a lot of time at her boyfriend's. Completed on a budget of just $130,000, the film has been hailed as a pioneering Black film and praised for centering a female protagonist. Written, produced, and directed by Leslie Harris, the film won the Special Jury Prize at the 1993 Sundance Film Festival.
