Old Enough
Upper-class 12-year-old Lonnie meets the working class, super glamorous, slightly older Karen in their neighborhood, the East Village. They spend time together, and Karen teaches Lonnie some of her favorite pastimes, like makeup, shoplifting, skipping school and lying to her parents about it. In exchange, Karen learns something about honesty. This closely studied look at an intense friendship, grounded in the geography of the neighborhood, explores two young women’s social differences.
